DWs at bus stops

I think this has been addressed before, but... I keep getting questions about
whether detectable warnings are required at bus stops where the boarding pad is
flush with the roadway edge/shoulder. I advise that DWs are required here
because there is no other 'warning' of vehicular way (curb, grass strip, street
furniture, etc.) Many still think that DWs here may confuse persons with
vision impairments - they may think this is a crossing. I remind them that the
DWs are a warning of the vehicular way and not designation of a crossing.
But... I don't see this specifically addressed in the ADAAG standards or the
ADA & ABA guidelines. HELP!

There are many issues not covered in the actual spec's, but the concept is that
DW's should be placed at all areas' where a person enters an arena with
vehicular traffic from a pedestrian walkway. Detectable warnings are required
at crossing points to denote entering an area with vehicular traffic as you
stated rather than a crossing. At ASSI, we are working in several arena's to
try to better stsndardize this aspect of the industry.please feel free to
contact me with any questions,
