Please enlighted me as to which "Site Entrance Sign" (also called the Unauthorized Parking sign) is ADA compliant in the state of California. I have been told by Counsel that the DOT sign # R100B is the sign that should be utilized. DOT sign R100B is 18" X 24" with black lettering on a white background. The sign most commonly used is 17" X 22" with white lettering on a blue background. The verbiage is identical between the two.

For most building projects (if not virtually all), DOT would not have any jurisdiction, and the requirements for this sign are in the California Building Code.

The US DOT has a coordination rule to ensure that accessible parking is harmonized between jurisdictions. Here is a link to its provisions for designating spaces: www.washingtonwatchdog.org/documents/cfr/title23/part1235.html#1235.7 The ADA standards for designating accessible parking spaces in new construction and alterations are at ADAAG 4.6.4; this is on the Board's website at www.access-board.gov/adaag/html/adaag.htm#4.6. California State accessibility standards (Title 24) may include the signage requirements you need; see www.dsa.dgs.ca.gov/default.htm.
