Cross Border Traffic Data, Forecasting and Modeling Peer Exchange

This group, consisting of data, forecasting and modeling professionals, addresses the variety of different methodologies for forecasting international cross-border traffic. The objective of the exchange is increased understanding of forecasting and traffic modeling practices. This exchange would be a first step toward harmonization of traffic projections and/or methodologies to be used when making decisions about new or modernizing ports of entry.

Topics discussed include border wait times: current and future projections, border crossing demand: current and future by mode, reliable land use and network data, freight demand and distribution, data consolidation, storage and updates, and other data related themes.

Current participants include the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the General Services Administration (GSA), the Department of State (DOS), the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the Imperial Valley Association of Governments (IVAG), the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Instituto Municipal de Investigación y Planeación (IMIP), the Mexican Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT), the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE).
