The American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI) was signed into law on December 16, 2003 under the American Dream Downpayment Act (Public Law 108-186). ADDI funds are used for downpayment assistance towards the purchase of single family housing by low-income families who are first-time homebuyers. Section 102 of Public Law 108-186, provides that ADDI is not subject to the requirements of the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (URA). For more information on ADDI visit HUD's web site at www.hud.gov/relocation
I would like more information on ADDi program. Where can I pick up an application. Also I would like to know if single parents can qualafied. I'm very interested in owning my own home. Renting prices in the city are higher than most morgages. Thank you, Norma Rodriguez
To Norma Rodriguez: For information on HUDs programs, you need to call your local public housing authority office or the local HUD office to see if the program is available in your area.
Thank you for your message concerning homeownership opportunities through the American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI). One of HUD's top priorities is to expand homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families. Through its administration of ADDI, the Department hopes to further promote homeownership for these underserved households. Downpayment and closing cost assistance made available through ADDI will be allocated to state and local governments to administer on behalf of HUD beginning in Spring 2004. However, many jurisdictions already administer similar homebuyer assistance programs.
